Tasha's Story

Hannibal, Missouri

I’m going to miss him dearly I wish I could get him back, but I know I can’t.

We have 3 beautiful daughters together and they loved their father very much “daddy’s girls”..

Covid Diagnosis

“The doctor told him that he had to put him on the ventilator because of the hospital's protocol.”

My Husband started to vomit and was feverish for days until December 13, 2021. We went into the walk-in clinic to take the Covid test and to get medication. The next day he was not getting better because they only gave him nausea medication. Then he started to display shortness of breath and his test results come back that he was positive for Covid. His breathing become so bad that around 6 pm his friend called the ambulance because he was too weak to walk out the door.

When he arrived at the E.R. the doctor “Dr. Patel” stated his breathing level was at 80% and had hooked my husband up to a bi-pap machine. Because of this, his breathing increased to 92-95%. However, he wasn’t given any real treatment, no breathing treatments, no steroids. Instead, he was given Dexmedetomidine and Remdesivir. So, at 2 am he got worse in the middle of the night and the doctor stated his breathing level dropped back down on the bi-pap machine to 80% again. Then the doctor told him that he had to put him on the ventilator because of the hospital's protocol.

The Ventilator

So, my husband trusted them and went on the ventilator and was heavily sedated. With Fentanyl, Propofol, Dexmedetomidine, Midazolam and Remdesivir. And they kept him sedated on his back for over 2weeks. The ventilator and medications started building up fluid on his body and he went from 275lbs to 350lb. (Almost 100lbs of fluid). Every major organ in his body started shutting down. His lungs, heart, kidneys, and his digestive system all started shutting down. He was so full of fluid that it was coming out of his nose.

It Was Too Late

“I had begged for him to be transferred several times.”

They never bathed him, and he was so dirty especially when they wouldn’t allow us to come in his room due to him having covid until 15 days later. My mother asked a nurse to bathe him and oil him down. On January 08, 2022, he had gotten so bad that he couldn’t go to any other hospitals even though I had begged for him to be transferred several times. The ICU doctor Farah wouldn’t agree to it until it was too late, and no other hospital would take him. On January the 2nd, Columbia university hospital stated they could not take him because he was too bad.

I Pray For Justice

“Eric believed he could do everything.”

We have been married since 2006 and I had known him since 2004. We have 3 beautiful daughters together and they loved their father very much “daddy’s girls”. They’re 17, 14, and 10 and the hospital took him away from them. He was their protector, provider, and just all-around great dad. Eric believed he could do everything. He was what you would call a “handyman”. He loved football and the Rams were his favorite team. He loved to cook and provided for his family. At times, Eric would work 2 to 3 jobs just to take care of his family. I’m going to miss him dearly I wish I could get him back, but I know I can’t. At least I can hope and pray he gets justice.
